I Will Never Forget the Look of Horror on My Sister Terri Schiavo’s Face the Day She Died

By Bobby Schindler

terrischiavo2On March 18, 2005, my sister, Terri Schiavo, began her thirteen day agonizing death after the feeding tube – supplying her food and water – was removed. Terri was cognitively disabled and had difficulty swallowing and therefore needed a feeding tube. Terri was not on any “life support”, nor was she sick or dying. Nonetheless, she received her death sentence ordered by Circuit Court Judge, George W. Greer of Pinellas County Florida.

Greer’s order to remove Terri’s feeding tube was in response to her estranged husband and guardian, Michael Schiavo, requesting permission from the court to kill his disabled wife. This was after Schiavo began cohabitating with his fiancée and stood to inherit Terri’s medical trust fund, which at the time was close to $800,000.

However, more disturbing was that the judge ruled to kill Terri, despite her mother and father pleading with Schiavo, and the court, to allow them to take her home. In fact, a guardian ad litem urged Judge Greer to refuse the dehydration request. Instead, this legally-required protector of Terri was dismissed from the original case by Greer and no replacement was ever appointed.

March 31st marks a very sad day; and this year, it will be the ten year anniversary of Terri’s death. Rush Limbaugh described it this way, “the day our country hit rock bottom”.

Terri’s case divided the nation and it will be discussed in high schools and college medical ethics classrooms for years to come. It is the anniversary of the death of a young woman who simply had a disability and needed basic and ordinary care to live, and a family who wanted to love and care for her just as she was.

With it being the 10 year anniversary, calls from the media have increased. Most of the articles are excoriating Governor Jeb Bush for his defense of Terri when he was the Governor of Florida back in 2005. But I have noticed one question has been asked more than others – “What, if anything, has changed since Terri’s death?”

Yes, things have changed – they’ve gotten worse. Exactly how many persons are being killed like Terri every year is difficult to know, although I think the numbers would shock us. What we do know is that we have a very active and aggressive right to die movement.

There are many dynamics involved to successfully convince our general public that it’s “okay” to dehydrate and starve a human being to death. If I had to point to one of the major accomplishments, it is how the right to die forces have been able to reclassify feeding tubes as “medical treatment”. However, just as effective is how they’ve influenced the masses to buy into the notion that some persons are in fact, not persons. Consequently, these human “non-persons” have no “value” and can be killed.

This should be frightening to read. But it is true. Even more frightening is how this ideology has impacted and been accepted in our culture, in particular, our health care community.

This, along with changes in public policies, now puts life and death decisions in the hands of physicians, hospitals boards and ethics committees – basically strangers – in the place of family members.

After Terri died, my family’s experience, contesting this powerful right to die movement, led us to establish the Terri Schiavo Life & Hope Network, which seeks to raise public awareness of the looming culture of death, and to educate the public about care potentialities. Most importantly, however, is to help families in situations similar to what we experienced – loved ones in danger of being killed, like Terri.

Indeed, the calls from families for help have increased, and increased significantly, as the years have passed.

Why is this? How has the right to die agenda been able to efficaciously shift our attitudes to the point that is has become everyday practice to starve and dehydrate a person to death. The issue may see complex, however it seems to me that the answer is very clear. It is because they lie.

terrischiavo7

I saw it in my sister’s case and I see it in the stories from the families who call us. And one of the most pathetic lies out there is that killing someone by denying them food and water is a “peaceful” and “painless” experience, and the patently absurd notion that it is a “death with dignity”.

It’s important to differentiate that Terri’s condition, and countless others like her, is quite different from a situation where it may be medically appropriate to withhold food and fluids because a person is actively dying and their bodies are shutting down, no longer able to assimilate their food and hydration.

Terri as seen on day of deathNonetheless, the never-ending propaganda about the peaceable nature of forced dehydration compelled me to make public this image of my sister created from my memory. This (right) is what Terri looked like just before she died. It was horrible to see.

And yet, Schiavo’s attorney falsely told the public during a press conference, just days before Terri’s death, that she looked “beautiful”. This is what they want you to believe, not the harsh truth about the madness of what we permit in the rooms of hospitals, nursing homes and hospices every single day across this country.

These are the hard facts my family and I will have to live with for the rest of my life: After almost two weeks without food or water, my sister’s lips were horribly cracked, to the point where they were blistering. Her skin became jaundice with areas that turned different shades of blue. Her skin became markedly dehydrated from the lack of water. Terri’s breathing became rapid and uncontrollable, as if she was outside sprinting. Her moaning, at times, was raucous, which indicated to us the insufferable pain she was experiencing. Terri’s face became skeletal, with blood pooling in her deeply sunken eyes and her teeth protruding forward. Even as I write this, I can never properly describe the nightmare of having to watch my sister have to die this way.

What will be forever seared in my memory is the look of utter horror on my sister’s face when my family visited her just after she died.

Those pushing this agenda will certainly deny this, they have to. But there was a reason the court ordered that no cameras or video be permitted in Terri’s room while she was being killed. They claimed privacy issues. My family knows otherwise. And they do too.

So when will this heartlessness end? When will the lies end? When will the American people decide this insanity has to stop?

I don’t know. But I do know this – the lies will never end.

Black Sheriff: Ferguson Desecrates The Legacy Of Martin Luther King

Milwaukee County Sheriff David A. Clarke is challenging the radicalized Democrat Party to tolerate, rather than to destroy, dissenting local leaders.

The hard left and Michael Bloomberg want this strong black voice “taken out,” as he describes it in this two part video interview with The Daily Caller. Yet, he recently won his fourth term for sheriff in a liberal Democrat country, winning with higher percentages each time his name has been on the ballot.

With his unique views, this 36-year law enforcement professional has been dubbed “The People’s Sheriff.”

Clarke starts out this video interview by condemning those who would elevate the death of Michael Brown or Trayvon Martin, “people engaged in criminal behavior,” as icons of a new civil rights movement. He says this would “desecrate the legacy of Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King, Jr.”

“None of these people deserved to have been killed, but they were co-conspirators in their own demise.”

For Me

IMGA01051by  Carrie K. Hutchens

I call into the night begging to know why truth is used as a sword to pierce my heart, as lies dance in such delight.  Oh such delight.  Such dancing.  Such laughter to reek against the skies and shatter the goodness of all thought.

The tears blind me.  My cheeks burn.  The sobs of betrayal so intense to crush any hope that might have ever been or might to ever be.

Is there even a chance of tomorrow for me?

The soft voices of offer give guise.

Sweet words of hopeful promise tease each breath ever given this day or even before.  Who said they were not to be what they were meant to be?

Is there even a chance of today for me?

I cry within the night begging to know why truth is so readily dismissed and why lies are left to feast and devour.

Who called this banquet to tease and to test this humble servant of the Lord of all good?  Who indeed blessed this evil offense and in glee grabs a stolen win?

Is there even a chance of a moment for me?

Is there a tomorrow to come or has it been taken in celebration of still another soul left to wither in agonizing pain of truth crushed and no justice to remain?

Night Screams in Silence as Darkness Comes to Conquer

skullNight screams in silence, as darkness slides into the shadows of unknown reflection.  There is no whisper to touch the moment… no hint to see… no tear to hear… the echo calls out to none and cries merely in apprehension of the awaiting fate that stirs near and yet rests so far away.

How did this become all that is, while all else remains somewhere in the vast dimension of all forbidden, though only to some… just to some… just to those shuttered on the outside of things to be?

Night creeps further into the harsh moment, where eyes peer cautiously and anguish threatens to devour all not cloaked in its sweet scent of remorse and the haunting thoughts pursuing.

When did it call out in demands of utter defiance?  What hand lay it into the midst of all that is and all that might ever be?  Who is the shadow birthing the terror and snuffing the flicker of breath once given freely to all?  Where did this beast travel from that does prey upon all those isolated and helplessly devoured by the shadows of ghostly destruction destined in the early hours before the dawn to come?

Did the darkness of madness come alone or has it been descending in a mass of existence not supposed in possibility?  Who bid it come?  Who holds the power to send it back into the nightmare of its creation?  Who is it that walks in mocking tones and dares us to see truth in the moon’s rays or the breath of spring before the death of winter?

Oh yes… it is a question to unfold and to cause recoil.  A sight terrifying in hideous form of drooling madness dripping from the being of twisted shapes and words deformed in presentation to embrace the masses of ignorance who shall dance in thrilling ecstasy at the banquet of their destructive sacrifice of self.

Ah, the beast with blackened heart and stench of rotting soul, standing just beyond man’s sight in his tremoring wake, still leaves wonder as to who beckoned the vile creature to dine upon the world?  Are there any so mighty in deed and wing of righteous spirit to swoop away the obscene presence of perverted flesh and the master who bid it come to feast in such great delight?

The night screams in silence and the desperate cry does remain forever sobbing in the dark corners of time as it asks again and ever again…

Are there any… any at all… who embrace the power to rise in mighty force and sling the deadly beast back into the netherworld of nightmares and the haven of its shadowed nest?  Are there any…  any at all who can save us from this doom of madness and agony once foretold and ever written of a time when the beast of darkness came to conquer the unwilling souls in the land that has come to reek of perversion and mock all once held in sacred covenant of old?

Truth: Has it lost its value and its worth?

truth liesIn this day and age, it seems that truth has lost its value!  Which leaves to question — is it really worth anything anymore?  Isn’t it only the liars, who get ahead and have a chance to grab the golden ring and stuff their pockets full of wealth and all things good?  Isn’t it only the liar that wins and the truth that nearly always loses?

There have been my moments when I felt truth was a lost cause.

Truth seemed to stop mattering, as bullies began to invade in masses as if from a foreign bully-land that no one had known existed.

Truth seemed to stop mattering, as liars threw out the lies and the world ran with them, rather than care about what the “un-exciting” or “inconvenient” truth really was.

Truth seemed to stop mattering, as technicalities, lack of counsel or activist judges gave reward to the lie and damned the truth as if it were something totally irrelevant.

Truth seemed to stop mattering when so many journalists became propaganda spreaders, rather than the excellent investigative reporters they had once set their goals to become.

Truth seemed to stop mattering when it got in the way of agendas and self-reward.

Yes, truth seemed to stop mattering for so many reasons, but it really didn’t.  It still matters.  It matters far more than some might think at any given time.

Truth is steadfast.  It does not sway with the winds.  Nothing ever makes a truth an untruth, contrary to what some might wish us to believe.

On the other hand, liars are like criminals.  They steal results and opinions.  They wrongly assault people’s reputations and by their lies lay claim to results, property, money and rewards not due them.  They might even destroy lives beyond repair, but “hey”, if they get what they want — that’s all that counts, right?

No.

Truth is solid because it is what it is.  Lies are without true substance.  There is nothing to anchor them on or to.  Eventually, it all plays out and the truth is proven to be the truth and the lie proven to be the lie.  It’s just a matter of when.  That’s all.

Truth is priceless.  And, if you die being “only” an honest person, you will have died being one of the wealthiest to have ever been.  No one will ever be able to actually take your truth away, and no one will ever be able to make the lies reality.  You will die knowing you are on the right side of history and more importantly — on the right side of God!

Priceless!

What do you non-truthers and non-truther supporters have against the truth?

truth liesIs lying supposed to be the new fad?  One would think so with how so many are playing loose with the truth at a minimum and outright-blatantly lying at the not-so-minimum.  Personally, I’m tired of all this lying and want to know what the non-truthers have against the truth?  I mean, if your position and your facts and your ideas are so great — shouldn’t you be able to sell them with truthful presentation and defense?

I don’t know about anyone else, except my closet friends, but I don’t like or trust non-truthers.  No one can or should trust them.  After all, if they will non-truth about one thing or person to get their way — they will be prone to non-truth about anything and anyone to get their way next time, too.

Once upon a time, I was intimidated and threatened in an effort to get me to lie about another person.  I refused, but I also said something very true that I hope they remember to this day.  “If I will lie for you now, what makes you think I won’t lie about you later for someone else?”

People, who will lie about others, can’t be trusted.

People, who insinuate non-truths about others or things, likewise cannot be trusted.

People, who lie about polls or say false things to get elected or to get what they want passed — can’t be trusted either.

It’s all the same.  It’s all wrong.

It’s cheating to win and then bragging about the win won unfairly, as though there was reason for praise.

You supporters of the non-truths are no better than the outright liar.  If you didn’t support and excuse and look the other way, the non-truthers wouldn’t be able to pull off all these wrongful wins they are racking up.  But then… today… you seem to see it as a win for your side and it’s kewl stuff to win however your side has to win, right?

Non-truthers aren’t the most loyal kids on the block.  Watch out for when you get in the way or become useless to them or you might find yourself at the other end of their non-truth.  Might not seem so righteous or rightful then, but who will care anymore than you cared for what was happening to those before you?

What do you non-truthers and non-truther supporters have against the truth?  Never mind, I think the rest of us know that answer.  The truth would cost you the game and you would no longer enjoy wrongful wins.  After all, if your position and your facts and your ideas are so great — shouldn’t you be able to sell them with truthful presentation and defense?  Well, shouldn’t you?

Tricked & Manipulated: All the Sheep in a Line to be Sheared

rears of sheepI truly hate it when people attempt to trick or manipulate me.  I don’t do it to them and I would appreciate the same courtesy in return.  Of course, in this particular time period of the world, it seems the trickery and manipulative behavior is a bit overwhelming and behind almost every bush and peanut tree.

One might laugh and say something about me watching commercials, as I use to frequently do when they were entertaining.  Don’t I realize they are an advertising firm’s attempt to manipulate my opinion and make me decide I absolutely need the product in question, whether I truly do or not?  Yep!  Yep!  I realize that to be completely so.  However, that’s the difference — I know what commercials are all about.  But the government and its agents?  Well, that’s a different story all together.  We shouldn’t have to be worried about being swayed by the better ad or public relations scheme.  Government should be straight forward and fact-filled — not an entertaining ploy .

Should be!… not that it is.  Now we have the White House employing entertainers to sell Obamacare?  (Does this mean, since these are ads, that we can file false advertisement complaints?)

The government shouldn’t be involved in having a Truth Squad, or whatever it is called, to harass and stalk people who are voicing their opinion.  And, I must admit… now that I’m on the subject… I’m more than a bit tired of Orwellian enforcers and blind followers calling me the idiot.

(I’m tired of them calling you an idiot, too.)

The United States of American may not have been perfect, but it wasn’t this mad, selfish, self-centered, immediate gratification demanding and threatening madness we have now.  How we got from 2007 to now is a whirl wind of bizarre.  This mess created by the radicals and activists is unbelievable and unsustainable.  It will eventually bite them in their backyards and it will no longer be their heavenly dream come true.

The problem is…

How do we, as a nation, survive, until “reality” wakes up the coma prone and rabid New World followers?  Can we?  I believe so.

We are a creative and hardworking people, who have merely been put on hold.  Once the common sense ban is lifted and the business & job-killing mercenaries are retired, we can fire up our efforts and rebuild and rebuild some more.  In the meantime, we need to help individuals, who might not be able to survive this mess entirely on their own.  We’re going to need them too.  And, let’s not forget the elderly, disabled and children — all have a part to play in making our country great again.

The moral of the story is…

Don’t fall for the trickery and manipulative rhetoric being spewed by those who want absolute control of every aspect of our lives.  Don’t be fooled.  These people aren’t looking out for us — they are out for control and profit.  After all, they certainly aren’t trying to redistribute their money and assets, or give up their lifestyles, now are they?

Don’t be fooled.  Realize what we are seeing right now is one big commercial, as the government and agents try to trick and manipulate us into believing they know what is best for us and we should simply agree to be nice, quiet little sheep!

Baaaaaa  Baaaaaa, not I.  I shan’t be nice or quiet or simply follow because I’m told I must.  What about you?  Has the trickery and manipulation become apparent to you, too?

Dark Ravens Rise

ravensDark ravens rise in mocking flight as snarls do hiss and serpents coil.  There is no babe in comfort held.  All lies are truth and truth are lies.  The cries of old in silence held.  A mother’s arms no longer are.  A babe in life now twists in death – the hope all gone… no breath to see… cold stillness of pain surpassed … tomorrows to never be.

The naked womb in haunted shame, echoes cries of tortured screams.  How often did the baby plead for a mother’s arms to stop the deed and simply give a chance to be?

Did she know?… did she care?… was there a moment she thought to dare and give a chance for this little life to be?

Or… did the lies rise up to snare still another doubting soul in guise of right and righteousness that is not so and few do see?

A right that makes it good to take a little life in glee breeds serpents tongues and crickets shame to sing upon the world of he and all that be.

A tiny soul in limbo rests while memories haunt and deeds devour the inhumane of selfish ways whose dark voices cry in thought of only “me” and “my” and “I”.

There is no rest for tortured ones as they desperately do wander in search… always in search… of what they can not find… nor ever shall, you see.  For it was a tiny soul clinging to a cold womb who held the light and sparked the fire of what we call humanity.
